You want to rest? Get your mind off-track…

When you rest and begin sleep, your mind drifts, right? Weird images and illogical thoughts move through your mind.
It actually works in reverse as well. Create illogical thoughts (boring ones) to help your mind let go.
This new tip came from my sister– she was helping her daughter move into rest and sleep. She said to her daughter:
“To help your mind drift like it does when you fall asleep, make it drift. Think about a cat turning into a dog, a dog turns into a sheep, a sheep turns into a fence, a fence turns into grass, grass turns into a rock…and on and on.
My niece has memorized the drifting images (she’s in college and has trouble sleeping). When I tried it out last night, I only remembered it started with a cat.
Instead, I used the letters in my first name to create a series of illogical images. I imagined the cat turning into a:
- Sheep, which turned into an
- Orangutan, which turned into a
- Nut, which turned into a
- Drum, which turned into a
- Rooster, which turned into an
- Airplane…
By then I drifted into my own illogical mind, to deep rest and sleep.
Try it out, and let me know what you think!
Wishing you soothing nights,
Sondra
